English Firsthand Cafe: Supplementary Activities EF1 UNIT 10
Preparation: Make copies of the Comparative Board Race Tasksheet (see below) and cut them into cards. Make 3-6 sets depending on the size of your class. Procedure: Divide the class into teams. There should be the same number of teams as sets of cards. Mix up each set so that the order is different among the sets. Set the cards face down on chairs that are an equal distance from the blackboard (as least 10 feet/3 meters is ideal). Students line up behind the chairs. When you say go, the first student from each team looks at the card, runs to the chalkboard, and writes a sentence using the word to compare two stores or items sold at stores (e.g., Leather coats are more expensive than cloth coats. Store X has better quality things than Store Y.) That student then runs back to the group and gives the chalk to the next student, who picks up the next card and continues the process. The items compared can be used only one time by each team. The team with the most correct sentences is the winner. Comparative Board Race Tasksheet
