Peer-dictation
with feedback words.
Preparation: Make copies
of the Feedback words below. Everyone
needs one so you’ll need one copy
of the list for each eight students.
Cut them apart.
Procedure: Give each
student one word. They copy it onto
the inside front cover of their book.
They stand and circulate. They tell
others their word. Everyone writes the
words in their book. People collect
all eight words. Then they work in groups
of 2-4. They tell a personal story (consider
have them recycle the A special time
story they told/drew a picture for on
page 72). Partners listen. They try
to use all eight of these “feedback”
words. Each time they use one they make
a check (√) next to the word.
(Consider having them continue using
this list during other fluency activities
to get used to giving this type of feedback
[the technical term is backchanneling]).
